Somebody Told Me It's All Happening At the Zoo

I decided to visit the zoo recently and bring the grandkids.  That is not the same as visiting the zoo to see the grandkids.  Subtle...but different.  It was WARM and HUMID so that even an hour was long enough.   It was about at the 1 hour moment, when I was asked to take a photo of the couple below.  So, I took a photo of them with their camera and then offered to take one with my camera and send it to them.

Meet Rachel and Seth!

They were enjoying the zoo together as part of a "mini" honeymoon!  There were visiting from Union City, Tennessee.  Seth farms and Rachel just graduated from nursing school!

My sincere thanks to you both!  And, I wish you the best of luck as you begin your life together!

Pussy Willows!

I remember these as a kid.  I thought they were most amazing.

Life hasn't changed that much, I guess.

When Pigs Fly!

I do like "funny".

And, I did chuckle.

So, I guess anything can happen now that pigs can fly.  Wear a hat.

Yoda! Is that you?

Nope . I guess not.

But, for me, the image is of a traveler...a weary traveler, who finds solace in the garden.

Very Zen Like

There is something primal and calming about smooth rocks.

OK, I won't get all metaphysical on you.  Just suggesting it!

After the Getty Lawn and Garden Statues Again.

Dogs?   It doesn't do much for me.  But, I have had a few days like this.

And, a bunch of pigs....Nah...Not for me.

After the Getty: Lawn and Garden Statues

I like lawn and garden statues.  They can say a lot about the person that purchases them and puts them in a yard.

So, I made a trip to a local nursery early this spring.

The Asian theme is nice.  I like the warrior/samurai look.

But, a happy Buddha is pretty interesting, as well.

Spring Babies: Fox 4

Ahhh...EVERYONE decided to come out and play!

I haven't seen them now for about a week.  It was amazing to watch them grow and learn to hunt.  One of the parents stuck pretty close to the den when the other went to hunt.  We used to see a LOT of rabbits around the area.  This year....just one.  The LUCKY one.

After a while, we saw them come out and begin to spread out and go their separate ways.  I assume they were out hunting on their own.

Finally, it was time to say goodbye to the den and start their own life.

It was wonderful watching them.  And, NO RABBITS this year!  HA!

You can come back next year.  I'd love to see you again.

Spring Babies: Fox: 3

Sometimes, it is good to wander into the world with your brothers and sisters.

Spring Babies: Fox 2

I managed to walk down near the river and brought the telephoto lens.  I sat very still to get the rest of these.

Venturing into the world alone.

Spring Babies: Fox 1

I haven't seen the family for a while now.  This spring is the second time we've had a pair of fox build a den and raise little ones.  The last time was about 10 years ago.  So, we were pretty excited to see the babies out running around.

This is what they look like when mom and dad aren't around.  You should find two of them in there.

Mom introducing them to the outside world.

And...beginning to stand alone.

I've got a few more that I managed to get one day.   They were a little shy about my getting to close.  They knew I was there.  But, as long as I didn't move very fast or get any closer, they seemed to be comfortable playing near the den.

Cute little buggers.

Father's Day: 2013

OK..I am a bit late with this post.   I've been so busy I hardly know what day it is.   When I realized that it was Father's Day on Sunday, I had already chased grandkids, was sleep deprived, at a wake and funeral and busy with work stuff.  I didn't even think about the blog until this morning

Now that it is quiet (Sunday afternoon), I thought it appropriate to just point back to my first post.

Thanks Dad

Community Organization

Meet Carlie and Madalin (mother and daughter)

They were running a small community bulletin board where people could post a business card and get local customers and/or share or trade work.

A lovely idea!

My sincere thanks to you both!

Feathered Friends Got Out, Too!

While dogs are cute wandering around.   A large bird on a shoulder attracts a lot of attention.

Meet Sarah and Lilu!

Lilu was looking pretty sporting!

The feathers are VERY cool.

Thanks Sarah!  And, thank Lilu, too!

Outfront Minnesota

I first ran into the OutFront Minnesota organization at the Pride parade last year.

This organization helps people struggling with gender and sexual identify and preferences.

I liked the spoons!
My sincere thanks to you all!

Republican Were There, Too!

To be fair, we can't leave out the Republican candidates and party.

Meet Pete!

Pete is the Ward 9 chairman of the republican party.    I had to chuckle a bit when I met him and realized a republican had a booth up at Powder Horn Park.  It isn't exactly known for being on the conservative side.

That is the Powder Horn Park ward.

Thanks Pete!

Democratic Candidates!

One should expect to see political candidates at the May Day Festival and parade.  So, I wasn't surprised to run into the Democratic candidates.

It is possible this was a subset of the Democrat party called the Ecology Democratic Party.  I am not entirely certain.

But, meet Dave!

And, if memory serves me correctly, the image below is of Ken.  Ken had been a candidate for the Minnesota Governor's race in the last four elections as part of the Green Party.  I think he looks a little like Pete Seeger!

My sincere thanks to you both!

Meet Katherine!

Thanks Katherine!

Pedal safely!  There are a lot of cars, trucks, and busses out there!

Environment Minnesota

Meet Sam!

She is active in the Environment Minnesota imitative supporting solar energy.   I have been very interested in solar energy for sometime.  But, I am still not convinced it is viable for Minnesota.  However, Sam may convince me I am wrong!

It is certainly worth checking out.

Thanks Sam!

Mary Jane

The May Day festival is an interesting gathering.  Among some of the more interesting, was the Minnesota Normal group.  This group was seeking to legalize marijuana.  Clearly Minnesota won't be the first state to do so.

When I took their photos, I asked for their names.  Meet Mary Jane and stevEb.  I did chuckle at the Mary Jane name.    And, I needed to ask stevEb at least three times about the spelling.  I THINK I got it right.

Meet Marty.

And, meet Brandon!

My sincere thanks to you all!
