It is a year since I vented a bit in my blog about freedom and the direction I believe our country is going. I am even less pleased, if such a thing is possible, with the current state.
We have a government, a president, that was elected under the promise of ushering in the most transparent government in the history of the US. And, we now have evidence of IRS cover ups of targeting political enemies. Yes....that is loss of evidence from the organization that is more than willing to threaten us when we don't have all our own receipts. And, we have evidence that the POTUS ordered the Sec. of State to not only lie to the American people about Benghazi, but to blame a poor artist/film maker for causing the attack. An attack that turned out to be NOT spontaneous, but a well orchestrated, terrorist attack.
Now, while there is plenty to blame the POTUS for in this debacle. Let's not forget that the Sec of State at the time could have shown some courage and integrity by resigning and making the public aware of the lie. But, she didn't. So folks, if you think she is going to make a future president, think about her ethics and integrity. You already have sufficient evidence to know that she will lie to the world to protect her own job. She will, in fact, lie to the American people. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the husband tree, does it.
OK....I won't get on a roll. But, there is one other news worthy thing that came up this year that was actually stunning. Reporters without Borders published a study showing that the US fell 13 spots, to number 46, in terms of Freedom of the Press. Excuse me? If you are curious, check out the link to the results. Frankly, there should be NO reason we are not in the top 5...ALWAYS. This is foundational to who we are as a nation. Apparently our government is willing to give up individual constitutionally guaranteed rights to "protect" us. So, we can be spied upon, by the American Stazi. We can have our blood drawn by police, without a warrant. We have a huge militarization of local police forces. We have an amazing increase of SWAT raids, primarily for drug busts. And, we have innocent Americans being gunned down in cities by those same police who "make a mistake" or who are so fearful that they prefer to shoot first. Innocent Americans have died as the result of police action. I am frightened..and embarrassed before the world.
So today, celebrate what freedoms we have left. They are rapidly disappearing.
Fight the good fight to reign in government. I won't be voting for any incumbent. They have consistently failed us. We deserve better. Both of the political parties will continue the same pattern of behavior that got us to this point. The only solution is to vote for someone else. I leave that to you. But, my path is clear.
Celebrate victories.
And, gather your friends and neighbors. Every election counts.
And yes. Yes, it matters. Ten's of thousands of good men and women died fighting for freedoms guaranteed in the constitution. Let their deaths not be in vain.
And, hold dear to your country. At one time, we were a model for the world. Now, we are a laughing stock. Your country needs you now, more than ever.
