The Dakota Club: Irv Williams

Meet Irv Williams.

I have friends that were kind enough to mention Irv Williams to me.   Irv has been a sax player for most of his life.

He decided to celebrate his 96th birthday by playing at the Dakota.   I was privileged to be there, to meet him, and to photograph him.  He had a great base and rhythm guitar player as backup!

I smiled a few times when he said he would cut some of the tunes a bit short because, well, he is 96 and gets tired.

Irv actually started playing about 30 minutes early this night.   When you are 96, you can play when you want, for as long as you want.  And, everyone in the crowd was thrilled to be there.

KARE11 did a nice story on him that night.  You can see more here.

Thanks Irv!
