The Band at the Pond Hockey Tournament

It is great to have a band at a Pond Hockey tournament!   Outside temp:  -10F.   Inside the tent:  +60F.  Still a bit chilly to play guitar.  But the band was great!

Spectators: Part 2

In spite of the cold, almost everyone was smiling.   I suppose they just got out of the warming tent!

Warming Tents are REALLY a Good Idea!

Outside, the temp was in the lower teens.  The wind chill was in the -teens F.  That is just a bit chilly!   The warming tent was a great place to take the chill out.

It's Pond Hockey Time Again: 3

This gives you some idea of the brackets.

Face masks to protect from the cold were a common sight!

Even for the little guys!

Those boys have fun!

It's Pond Hockey Time: 2

I got there just as some games were finishing.  The players were heading off the ice and the scraping crew was coming on.

I was sure glad there was a warming tent!   And these gentlemen were doing a nice job keeping everyone safe.   The biggest danger was slipping and falling on the ice...or freezing to death!   They had snow mobiles ready to get people safely off the ice and warm them up, if needed.

Pond Hockey Time: 1

Teams come from all over North America to play Pond Hockey.   It differs a bit from what you may see in an arena.  There are only 4 players on a site.  There is no goalie.  And the net is really just an open spot on some 2x6's.  No checking.  There are no side-boards or plexiglass to protect the by-standards.  So, no flying pucks!!

In this case, I had parked about 1/2 mile away and decided it was faster to walk across the ice to the rinks than to find my way on the streets.   It was about 13F and a strong wind made the wind chill in the -10-15 F range.  It was nasty cold.

But people were having a lot of fun.

A Peek at Spring

I attended a large gathering at the Landscape Arboretum in one of the suburbs.  I liked this massive bouquet of flowers hanging from the ceiling.

In a land of snow and ice, this was lovely to see.  And it smelled great!  Spring really is coming!!   We just 4" of snow on Easter.   But I know it is coming!

Edible Garden Art

Meet Jule!

She runs JulesLoft.com.   She takes suet and bird seeds and forms them into various shapes, and leaves them outside to feed the birds.  It is quite clever!

Thanks Jule!

Animal Sketches

I did not get this ladies card.   But, I know I have crossed paths with her before.  I liked her signature animal sketches on plates and cups.

Thank you for chatting and letting me take a few pics!
